Specialized Massage Techniques at Elements

Our therapists have training in a variety of techniques and will incorporate them into a customized massage based on the client’s needs and preferences.

Reflexology

Reflexology uses hand, thumb, and finger pressure and techniques to stimulate certain areas of the feet. These areas are believed to correspond to different parts of the body. The massage, then, is expected to promote health and well-being throughout the body.

Shiatsu Massage

In Japanese, shiatsu means "finger pressure." For shiatsu massage, the therapist uses varied, rhythmic pressure on certain precise points of the body. These points are called acupressure points, and they are believed to be important for the flow of the body's vital energy, called chi. Proponents say shiatsu massage can help relieve blockages at these acupressure points.

Myofascial Release Massage

Myofascial release refers to the manual massage technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, and muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and equilibrioception.  Myofascial release usually involves applying shear compression or tension in various directions, or by skin rolling.

Pediatric Massage

Elements therapists are trained to provide the same relaxation, relief and treatment to young clients, with the parent’s permission, of course.  A parent is also allowed to be in the room during the session. Our younger clients include:

  • High school athletes
  • Students preparing for a big test (like the SAT)
  • Prom, sweet sixteen and bat mitzva parties

Young adults recovering from injuries or who have other medical conditions (autistic children, in particular, respond well to therapeutic touch)
